The Correct Settings to Record Game Videos for the AMD Radeon RX 7600XT

If you are recording gameplay videos with OBS Studio and is experiencing low resolutions, you need to correctly configure your settings.

To make sure that you get a good resolution, go to Settings, then to Video, then choose, the highest resolution for the Base Canvas Resolution and the Output (Scaled) Resolution.

Go to settings, then go to the output tab.

1. At the very top of the Output settings page, change Output Mode from Advanced to Simple.

2. In Simple mode, you'll see a much cleaner interface:

   • Under Recording, change the Recording Quality dropdown to Indistinguishable Quality or High Quality, Medium File Size. It should not be “Same as Stream.”

   • Change Recording Format to Hybrid MP4 (.mp4) (which you already have selected).

3. After this is done, the next step is to avoid the stuttering when you record the video.

4. Click Apply and then OK.

If you have an AMD Radeon RX 7600XT, and you are experiencing stuttering when recording videos, it is almost certainly due to an encoder overload. This happens when your system is working too hard to capture the video, resulting in dropped frames and choppy gameplay in the recording.

The best practice for your card is to use the dedicated hardware encoder, which takes the load off your CPU and GPU. Here are the specific settings to try:

Go to Settings, then go to the Output tab.

2. At the top of Output settings, change Output Mode back to Advanced

3. Click the Recording tab

4. Change Type to Standard

5. Choose:

   • Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC H.264 (if you have NVIDIA)

   • or AMD HW H.264 (if AMD)

   • or x264 (CPU – only if CPU is very strong)

6.      Select the Correct Encoder:

6. • In the Recording tab, find the Video Encoder dropdown.

   • Select AMD HW H.264. This is the hardware encoder built into the RX 7600XT.

7. Adjust the Encoder Settings:

   • Once you select the AMD HW encoder, new options will appear. Look for the Preset or Quality Preset dropdown.

   • Change it from Quality to Balanced. While Quality gives better output, it's more demanding. Balanced will lighten the load on your system and should help eliminate stuttering, with a minimal quality trade-off.

8. The "B-Frames" Tweak (Crucial for AMD):

   • Look for an option like B-frames or a text box for bframes in the encoder settings.

   • Set the number to 0 (zero). Some users with AMD cards have reported that setting B-frames to 0 solves stuttering issues, as having even 1 or 2 B-frames can cause problems for AMD's hardware encoder.
