Think of QUDO like a video game platform (similar to Steam or the Apple App Store) but with one major difference: it has its own built-in currency that works across every game on the platform.
The platform itself runs on the Telos blockchain, think of Telos as the network. QUDO didn't build their own network; they built a store and reward system that runs on top of an existing public network (Telos).
So to be clear: QUDO is not a blockchain. It's a platform and a currency that sits on top of a public blockchain called Telos.
What QUDO Is Trying to Do
The people behind QUDO want to solve two big problems in gaming:
Problem 1: Players Put Time Into Games and Get Nothing Back
Right now, you can spend hundreds of hours in a game, build up characters, earn rare items, and then... what? You stop playing, and all that time and effort is gone. You can't sell your progress, you can't take your items to another game, and you don't get any real value back for making the game popular.
QUDO's solution: Give players a currency (the QUDO token) for the time they spend playing. This token has real value; it can be spent, traded, or saved.
Problem 2: Indie Developers Struggle to Get Noticed and Funded
Small game studios can't compete with big publishers. They don't have marketing budgets, they can't give away free items to attract players, and they struggle to build an audience.
QUDO's solution: Give developers a way to reward players directly. If someone plays your game, they earn tokens. If they find a bug, they earn tokens. This creates word-of-mouth and loyalty without needing a huge marketing budget.
There Are Two Types of Tokens in QUDO
1. The QUDO Token (Fungible)
This is like a digital dollar bill. Every QUDO token is identical to every other QUDO token. They are interchangeable. If you have 10 QUDO tokens and I have 10 QUDO tokens, they are exactly the same.
What gets tokenized: The QUDO token itself is the currency. It's not representing an asset; it is the asset. Think of it like earning points that can be spent anywhere.
Why this matters: These tokens can be spent on any game in the QUDO ecosystem. You earn them in Game A, you spend them in Game B. That's the "universal credit" idea.
2. In-Game Items (Non-Fungible Tokens / NFTs)
This is where the "deed" idea comes in. If you earn a rare sword in a QUDO game, that sword can be tokenized as an NFT. Now you have a digital deed that proves you own that specific sword.
What gets tokenized: Specific, unique in-game items. A sword, a character skin, a special ability.
Why this matters: Because you own that deed, not the game developer. The developer can't take it away. And, crucially, if another game on QUDO supports it, you can bring that sword into the second game. It's not locked to one game anymore.
Why Put This On A Public Blockchain?
You might ask: "Why can't they just do this with a normal database and a regular currency?"
Good question. Here's why they use a public blockchain:
1. Trust and Transparency
If QUDO ran their own database, they could change the rules anytime. They could decide to give themselves more tokens, or take tokens away from players. Because the blockchain is public, every transaction and rule is visible. Nobody can cheat.
2. Real Ownership
In a regular game, the developer owns everything. They can delete your account, change your items, or shut down the servers. When your item is on a public blockchain, you own the deed. Even if the game shuts down, the token still exists on the blockchain. You could potentially use it elsewhere or sell it.
3. Interoperability
Because the blockchain is public, other developers can build on it. They can create games that recognize QUDO tokens and NFTs. This is much harder to do with a private, closed system.
4. No Central Control
QUDO doesn't control the blockchain. Telos does. This means QUDO can't freeze your tokens or stop you from transferring them. It's like the difference between having money in a bank (the bank can freeze your account) versus having cash in your pocket (nobody can stop you from spending it).
How Tokens Are Created (The Tokenomics)
New QUDO tokens are created through a process called block rewards. This is similar to how Bitcoin creates new bitcoins.
A "block" is just a group of transactions that get processed together, about once per minute.
For the first 2 years, the number of new tokens created per block starts small and gradually increases, reaching a peak of 128 tokens per block.
After that, the number of new tokens "halves" (cuts in half) roughly once per year for 4 years.
After 6 years total, no more new tokens will be created. The total supply will be fixed at 193.2 million QUDO tokens.
Where do the tokens go?
77% go to the community (players and game developers)
23% go to the project team, partners, and staking rewards
So the people who build and support the ecosystem get a smaller share, and the people who actually play and make games get the majority.
Putting It All Together
Here's the complete picture:
QUDO is a gaming platform built on the public Telos blockchain.
It has its own currency (the QUDO token) that players earn by playing games.
Players can earn tokens for:
Time spent playing
Good performance
Finding bugs
Completing challenges
Developers can integrate QUDO into their games using an SDK (software kit).
Players can spend tokens across any QUDO game.
Rare in-game items can be tokenized as NFTs, giving players true ownership.
All of this is transparent and secured by a public blockchain.
The big idea is to make gaming more rewarding for players, more accessible for indie developers, and to create a connected economy where effort in one game has value across many. Their site is https://qudo.io.
